Open Friendly July 2019

On Wednesday 17th July we opened the club to host an Open Friendly tournament. Our Club Captain, Terry Stratton, had invited club members and social bowlers from bowls clubs in and around Peterborough to come as groups of three to play a couple of matches on a Friendly basis. The teams were drawn randomly against each other, and played two 8-end matches with a break for refreshments in between, with the second match subject to a re-drawing of the teams.

Concentration was fierce, and a certain competitiveness prevailed, but the general atmosphere was one of enthusiasm and sociability. Entry ‘fees’ and the sale of raffle tickets raised a splendid £135 for the club’s chosen charity for this year, Diabetes UK. Everyone considered the event to be a success, so the club will be hosting another tournament on Wednesday 14th August, to which all will again be invited.
